Inemesit was born in Nigeria in 1985 and immigrated to England with her family at the age of five. After graduating from the University of Kent in Canterbury in 2007, she moved to Yellowknife to marry and settle.
Inemesit has drawn for as long as she could hold a pencil and although studied art in highschool, never took it at an undergraduate level. She is largely a self taught painter and takes influence from the culture around her.
Inemesit enjoys using bright colours in her work, an aspect of her African heritage. Her topics range from local culture to pop culture. Inemesit mainly focuses on portraits of people and animals and takes pride in being able to replicate a face in her own stylised way. She describes her style as a mixture of pop art and expressionism.
This site also includes a collection of poetry by Inemesit. In the words of Leonardo da Vinci, “Painting is poetry that is seen rather than felt, and poetry is painting that is felt rather than seen.” |
