Poetry 3/2/10| I've put a couple of new poems up. One of these days I'll put them together in a book with pictures and such. In the meantime, enjoy them under the Poetry tab. They range in themes from fatherly abandoment to motherly love. I write what I feel at the time. Most of these poems were completed within 20 - 30 minutes. | |

African-Caribbean Canadian Society Heritage Celebration 2/14/10 | As part of Black History Month, there will be an African-Caribbean Heritage Celebration at Northern United Place (Yellowknife) on Saturday, February 27 from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.
There will be live music (with performances by Stephen Kakfwi among others), food from African and Caribbean nations, African and Caribbean music and a chance to win several prizes. During the celebration there will be a silent auction with the proceeds going to help the victims of the Haiti earthquake.
Two of my paintings will be in the auction; A 16" x 20" matted print of "From Arctic to Africa" (a celebration of African and Dene culture), and the pictured original acrylic on canvas portrait of Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King Jr. and Desmond Tutu - three faces of Black History. I chose to focus on these three leaders because all have won Nobel Peace Prizes and contributed significantly to not only "Black History" but world history. Nelson Mandela was the first South-African president to be elected in a fully representative democratic election, and he and Desmond Tutu were active players in the ending of apartheid in South Africa. Martin Luther King Jr. was the predominant leader in the Civil Rights Movement to give equal rights to the black people of the United States of America.
I will also have a table with other art pieces for sale, including prints, mugs, totebags, postcards and 2010 calendars.
Hope to see you there! :)
